The Texas Declaration of Independence formally declared the autonomy of the Republic of Texas from Mexico during the Texas Revolution. A committee, led by George C. Childress (1804-1841) and including James Gaines, Edward Conrad, Collin McKinney, and Bailey Hardeman, drafted the document on March 1, 1836 during the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos.
